This Cairn was built on an island across from Mowat Lodge on Canoe Lake. Reported to be one of Tom Thomson’s favourite campsites. Shortly after his untimely death, local residents, along with artist John W. Beatty carried local stones up to build this monumne to their friend. J.EH. MacDonald wrote the statement on the Cairn in his memory. Allo these years later, it is still there. The view isn’t as open as it was in Thomson’s time, but is still amazing to be there and know how much time he spent there comptemplating life and art.
