Gene canning, paints his world

Hello, I’m Gene Canning. I’d like to welcome you to my website. You will see a variety of subject matter and styles.  I just can’t seem restrict myself to any one subject or theme, and I’ve decided, for better or worse, not to. I also love a variety of medium. I paint in oil, acrylic and pencil, though most of my work is now done in oil. I love the feel of oil paint moving under my brush.

You will see from my website that I have been working on a project on Tom Thomson I’ve titled “On the Trail of Tom Thomson, 100 Years Later” . This is my way exploring this great Canadian Artist, celebrating his time with us 100 years ago. It is also, as David Silcox said to me, more  a journey about me, who I am as an artist. It’s hard for me to believe that I have worked on this project for 2 1/2 years now. I have recently completed my goal of 150 paintings all completed in the field. What an experience!

Roy McGregor wrote in  his book Northern Lights, “For Gene, Go for It! TT would approve”. That is just what I did!

Sincerely,

Gene Canning
